Essential oils are pure, natural oils made using a distillation process to capture the charisma and charm at the very core of the plant they’re from.
We all know that a few drops of these prized oils are wonderfully relaxing and aromatic for a long soak in the bath. But they actually have many little-known uses around the home – here are some of our favourites:
Having trouble getting to sleep? A few drops of Roman Chamomile [anthemis nobilis] on your pillow will have you in dreamland in no time at all!
Add some Tea Tree Oil to your diffuser. It’ll make quick work of any mould spores in the air, and eradicate lots of other nasty pathogens!
Not a fan of spiders, but don’t want to squish them? Dab a cotton wool ball soaked in Peppermint Oil around windows, doors and anywhere spiders and bugs might get in.
They can’t stand it, so your house should be free of them and smell fresh and invigorating into the bargain!
If people smoke in your house, the evidence can remain hours after they’re gone. Put a few drops of Eucalyptus Oil into a spray bottle with some water, shake and spray around the house.
Hey presto! No-one will know anyone has lit up.
Add a classy touch when sending letters or cards to loved ones – a few drops of pure Organic Lavender Oil will caress the room when the envelope is opened.
Take a bottle of Java Citronella Oil and your oil burner on holiday, and the mosquitoes will stay well away. They hate the smell, but for humans it’s fresh and invigorating.
It’s a win-win situation that frees you up to enjoy a glass or two of something tasty without having to scratch your bites.
A great smelling, kitchen-friendly disinfectant
We all like a clean kitchen, but none of us want to use a load of nasty chemicals!
A few drops of this wonderful Lemon Oil, made from the rind of the fruit, added to warm water and sprayed around the kitchen, acts as a brilliant, natural disinfectant. Smells beautiful too!
There is some evidence that Mandarin Oil is fantastic for the circulatory system, and many people like to add a few drops to their regular skin care cream before rubbing it in.
You’ll have a lovely soft citrus scent too!
Sandalwood is one of the oldest known plants used for its scent. It’s been used for centuries in India, in combinations with other scented materials, for its stress-relieving properties as a natural calmer.
This wonderful ‘Romance Blend’ is the airborne version of a Barry White record!
A combination of Patchouli, Jasmine, Lime, Orange, Rose, Petitgrain, Ylang Ylang, Ho Wood, Spearmint, Benzoin, Cedarwood and Champaka essential oils, it’s said to lend a sensuous, amorous air to any room – great for those special nights in!
