Our Favourite Afternoon Tea Recipes
Afternoon tea has long been part of British tradition. Us Brits have always enjoyed getting together for a natter with a platter of exquisite cakes and endless cups of tea. A good afternoon tea consists of sandwiches, cakes and scones – not to mention your favourite tea blend. If you’re looking for afternoon tea inspiration, then you’re in the right place! So raise your afternoon tea game by having a peek at some of our favourite recipes!
Roasted Red Pepper & Walnut Spread
Our roasted red pepper spread is a great sandwich filling. Alternatively you can use it to fill mini pastry cases to make dinky little tarts or hor d’oeuvres.
Chickpea Tuna Mayo Salad (Vegan)
A wonderful sandwich filling that is so simple to make. Nori sprinkles add a ‘fish flavour’ and black salt adds ‘egg’ flavour to this amazing vegan recipe.
Our sunflower cream cheese is the perfect addition to any afternoon tea. Serve on rye bread with thin slices of radish for an elegant vegan dish.
Vegan & Gluten-Free Vanilla Cupcakes with Pink Cashew Frosting
No afternoon tea is complete without some lovely little cupcakes! These gluten-free and vegan cakes are super-easy to make and look absolutely stunning.
Our snowball cookies aren’t just for Christmas – these bitesize cookies look great on any afternoon tea platter. They’re delicious, buttery, nutty and vegan and sugar-free too!
Okay, so we know afternoon tea is all about bite-size cakes, but we couldn’t go without mentioning our incredible Hummingbird Cake. This show-stopper is packed with tropical flavours and makes a beautiful centrepiece!
Our vegan take on a classic tart. This recipe makes one large Bakewell, or alternatively you can make into individual tarts. You can swap jam & fruits to achieve different results (we love apple & cinnamon, pear & cardamom and peach & rosemary combinations).
These scones are gluten-free, and can be made fully dairy-free if you substitute the dairy yoghurt for soya yoghurt. The mix is incredibly quick to put together, and uses xanthan gum to bind everything. We found that the mixture rose just a little, so allow for this when deciding how tall you would like the final scones to be. This mix makes approximately 12 tall/large scones or 18 small/shallow scones. The inclusion of yoghurt helps to keep these cakes nice and moist.
Scones aren’t complete without jam! We love our homemade apricot jam. Do you know you can make jam out of dried fruit? Well you can – as you can see with this beautiful amber spread here!
If you’re looking for a slightly different type of scone, we highly recommend our Maple Pecan Scones. Delicious, dairy-free scones with cane sugar-free caramel. Top with your favourite cream or cream alternative.
Brownies are one of the first things to be snaffled at our afternoon teas! These moist and soft brownies with a caramelised sesame swirl are simply divine!
This moist, sugar-free cake is perfect for afternoon tea. We made a larger celebration cake, but you can bake the mixture in smaller bite-size helpings. Just make sure to reduce the cooking times.
