Spicy Harissa and Sesame Hummus
- A spicy variant of the traditional houmous recipe.
- With added harissa and cumin for a spicy taste!
Chick Peas in Water, Organic 400g (Biona)
400g chickpeas. These organic chickpeas from Biona are ready-cooked and have no added salt or preservatives.
2 tbsp tahini
Clearspring Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500g
5/6 tablespoons of olive oil will help to loosen the mixture and make it more workable.
A dash of lemon juice helps to loosen the mixture and also helps to carry the spicy flavours.
Freeze-Dried Garlic Powder 100g (Sussex Wholefoods)
Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
2 teaspoons of Harissa paste.
Organic Cumin Powder 100g (Sussex Wholefoods)
2 teaspoons of cumin powder.
Atlantic Sea Salt Crystals, Organically Approved 250g (Geo Organics)
A pinch of salt.

Method
- Mash the chickpeas in a bowl.
- Add the tahini, oil and lemon juice and blend it all together. You can use a food processor to make this easier.
- Add the garlic, harissa, cumin powder, salt and pepper.
- Blend thoroughly. Add more lemon juice/oil if you need to make the mixture more workable.
- Importantly, leave to stand for an hour or two to allow the flavours to mix together.
- Serve with crispbread!
