Sloe Gin

This sloe gin is the perfect Christmas tipple, and it makes a wonderful gift. You can make it up to three months in advance, or even earlier for a beautiful, full-flavoured ruby red liqueur. You can even keep and reuse the sloe berries and make them into sloe port when you are done!

Traditionally sloe gin is made with fresh sloe berries. But our Sussex Wholefoods Dried Sloe Berries work fantastically well too! We recommend soaking the berries overnight, and then pricking them before steeping them in the gin. This allows the flavours of the berry to really infuse into the sugar and alcohol.

Other Ingredients

750ml Gin

500g White Sugar

Method

  1. Soak your sloe berries overnight.
  2. Rinse the berries and then prick each one a couple of times.
  3. Add the berries, then the sugar and then the gin to a large receptacle. We used a large mason jar.
  4. Leave in a cool, dark place. Shake every day for about three months (or steep for longer if you wish).
  5. Pour the gin into a large jug, and retain the boozy berries (make sloe port at a later stage). Bottle up and enjoy!
