Note that pink/red peppercorns are actually a little tiny peppery fruit, and hence have a somewhat different set of characteristics from normal peppercorns, though they still have an overall peppery taste and can be used as pepper. The plant that they come from is the Baies Rose plant, which is native to South America but is now grown in Mauritius.

They go particularly well with meats such as ham.
