Mesquite powder is made from grinding down the beans of the Mesquite Tree Prosopis pallida.
The tree mostly grows in South America, Middle and parts of North America. Mesquite Meal (Flour) has been eaten as a food since around 8000BC in the Americas*. It was eaten by tribes because it had a natural sweetness similar to molasses and caramel. It would be added to other flours and used to make tortillas, other breads and cake-like foods.
When analysed for mineral content the mesquite powder contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. It is also rich in the amino acid lysine.
Ingredients:
Organic, powdered Mesquite. Produce of Peru.
*Please note: Due to the European Novel Foods Law of 1997 we are not able to sell mesquite meal as a food.
