Oat groats are high in protein and a good source of fibre. These oats make a chunky and rustic healthy porridge or can be used as an alternative to plain rice.
To make porridge, add to water in a saucepan (one cup of oats to two cups of water). Simmer for 30 minutes or until oats are soft. You may have to add extra water to the oats if the water boils away before they've cooked. To serve, mix in milk for a creamy flavour, or perhaps add fruit, honey, jam or nuts to taste.
